Abstract
Intensifying workforce migration changes the structure and quality of human resources in the countries and increases international competition for skilled workforce. In the same time, migration shapes certain patterns and pathways of skills development of migrating workforce, which mechanisms and implications to the people, enterprises and countries and not explored. This is also the case of workforce migration from the new EU member states which joined the EU since 2004 and the old ones. Better understanding of these patterns and pathways of skills development shaped by workforce migration is an important precondition for effective management and development of the free workforce movement in the EU, seeking to increase its contribution to the socioeconomic development of all EU countries. It is also needed for successful implementation of the national and European strategies of human resource development and lifelong learning.
