Abstract
The KG B, in a struggle with the political activities of Lithuanian emigres, from the 1960s onwards used not only the activities of agents but also ways and means of ideological influence and formation of negative public opinion such as discreditation, propaganda, and disinformation. Soviet periodicals such as Tiesa, Gimtasis kraštas, and the pro-Soviet Lithuanian-American „Vilnis“ and „Laisvė“ became popular vehicles for spreading discredit and propaganda. The KG B also tried tried to use some of the periodicals, such as Akiračiai and Metmenys, published by socalled nationalist emigrants to accuse many active emigrants of war crimes, participation in the Holocaust, holding pro-Nazi views during the Nazi occupation, and other offenses. Propagating Soviet achievemens was also used to discredit emigants. However, those actions were not as succesful as the KG B intended, but they had some effect on the diaspora community and Western society.
